1 Overview & 100% On-Device Architecture
BuildTally ("we", "our", or "the App") is developed and published by Tech2U Savannah as an offline-first construction estimating utility, material quantity calculator, and Bill of Quantities (BOQ) generator designed primarily for the Kenyan construction ecosystem and international builders.
Offline-First Privacy Guarantee: Your construction projects, floor dimensions, site locations, client names, custom pricing overrides, and exported Bill of Quantities remain exclusively on your physical device. We operate no cloud accounts, no mandatory logins, and no central databases that harvest your private construction estimates.
2 Information We Do Not Collect
Because BuildTally executes calculations locally on your Android device without requiring personal registration, we do not collect, sell, rent, or monetize:
- Your name, email address, physical address, or phone number.
- Your clients' names, contact details, or contracted billing rates.
- Your construction project specifications, architectural dimensions, drawings, or BOQ line items.
- Your precise GPS coordinates or real-time location history.
- Your biometric records, payment credentials, or financial account credentials.
3 Local Data Storage & Persistence
When you create a project (e.g. residential house, perimeter boundary wall, foundation slab), calculate material quantities, or adjust unit rates, all information is persisted locally in your device's sandboxed private storage via Android SharedPreferences and SQLite/Drift databases.
This data is never transmitted to Tech2U Savannah servers. You maintain total ownership and control over your files, which can be exported as standard JSON backups or shared as signed PDF documents via Android's native sharing sheet.
4 Official Quantity Surveying & Financial Disclaimer
BuildTally is an estimating utility and computational planning aid. It is designed to assist self-build homeowners, contractors, fundis, and site supervisors in calculating approximate material requirements and establishing preliminary budgets based on average published market benchmarks across Kenya's 47 counties.
Regulatory Notice: BuildTally does not provide licensed architectural advice, structural engineering certification, or statutory quantity surveying documents. BuildTally is not affiliated with the Institute of Quantity Surveyors of Kenya (IQSK), the National Construction Authority (NCA), or specific manufacturers. Actual project costs will vary based on manufacturer quotes, terrain conditions, transport logistics, and contractor terms. For statutory submissions or formal commercial contracts, always engage a licensed professional.

BuildTally requests only the minimum technical permissions required for standard functionality:
6 Advertising & Google UMP Consent Framework
To support ongoing development while keeping core calculators and PDF exports free, BuildTally may display non-intrusive advertisements served by Google AdMob.
Google AdMob & User Messaging Platform (UMP)
BuildTally complies with global privacy regulations, including the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), UK GDPR, Swiss DPA, and California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA). We integrate Google's certified UMP consent framework:
- User Consent: Users in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland are presented with an official consent dialogue before any personalized advertisements are served.
- On-Demand Consent Revocation: You can review, modify, or withdraw your advertising consent preferences at any time directly through the in-app settings menu.
- Child Protection: We do not target advertisements to children under the age of 13.
7 Remote Rate Pack Synchronization
BuildTally includes an autonomous rate pack update system that periodically queries a cryptographically signed static JSON manifest hosted on GitHub Pages. This query transmits no personal data, project names, or device identifiers—only a standard HTTP GET request. The app never overwrites existing project BOQ quotes without explicit user confirmation.
8 Data Retention, Portability & Deletion
Because all data resides exclusively on your local device:
- Data Retention: Your estimates and rates persist until you choose to delete them or uninstall the app.
- Data Deletion: Deleting an item or project inside the app removes it permanently. Uninstalling BuildTally or clearing app storage in Android System Settings completely erases all local database records.
- Portability: You can export full JSON backups or individual rate packs at any time.
9 Children's Privacy
BuildTally is a construction estimating utility designed for adults, professionals, and homeowners. We do not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 in applicable jurisdictions).
