1 Introduction & Core Privacy Principles
Welcome to DocSnap Explain ("the Application", "we", "us", or "our"), published by Tech2U Savannah. DocSnap Explain is designed to help users quickly understand complex, jargon-heavy documents—such as tax assessments, hospital invoices, tenancy notices, bank letters, and utility bills—by translating them into simple, plain-language summaries with actionable key points.
We hold a strict Privacy-First & On-Device Architecture philosophy:
- Your captured photos stay on your device: We never upload raw camera pictures or scanned document images to our servers.
- No user accounts or personal profiles required: You can use all core features without registering, signing in, or sharing your identity.
- Zero data broker sharing: We never sell, rent, or trade your document contents or personal information.
Core Guarantee: All document photos captured or selected from your gallery are stored strictly inside your device's isolated local app storage and indexed in an on-device SQLite database. You maintain 100% control over your paperwork at all times.
2 Document Handling & On-Device Storage
When you photograph a document or select an image from your device gallery:
- The image file is saved exclusively in your device's private app directory (`/data/user/0/com.tech2u.docsnap/app_flutter/`).
- The extracted text, plain-language explanation, financial metrics, and deadlines are stored locally in an encrypted/private SQLite database (`docsnap.db`).
- No third-party cloud storage service (such as AWS, Google Drive, or Firebase Storage) receives or retains your document pictures.
3 Optical Character Recognition (OCR) & AI Processing
DocSnap Explain processes documents through a multi-tiered approach:
- On-Device Text Recognition: The application utilizes the Google ML Kit Text Recognition on-device SDK. Text recognition occurs locally on your smartphone processor without transmitting the document image across the internet.
- Offline Semantic Analysis: Extracted text is evaluated by our localized rule-based heuristics engine to classify document domains (e.g., Tax, Healthcare, Banking, Legal, Utilities), compute critical amounts, identify deadlines, and draft emergency action steps.
- Cloud AI Translation (Optional): If the user chooses to enable cloud AI processing (via Google Gemini) for advanced multilingual explanations, only the raw text strings needed for summarization are transmitted via secure HTTPS/TLS encryption. No camera images, EXIF metadata, or personally identifiable device serials are attached.
4 Advertising & Third-Party SDKs (Google AdMob)
DocSnap Explain is completely free to use and does not charge subscription fees or require in-app purchases. To support continuous maintenance and development, we display non-intrusive advertisements served by Google AdMob.

Google AdMob may collect and use pseudonymous device identifiers (such as the Google Advertising ID / AAID), IP address, network carrier, and anonymous app interaction metrics to deliver relevant ads and protect against ad fraud. For more details on Google’s advertising practices, please review the Google Privacy & Terms.
5 Consent Management & Revocation (Google UMP / GDPR / CCPA)
We strictly adhere to global privacy regulations, including the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (EU GDPR), United Kingdom GDPR (UK GDPR), Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (Swiss FADP), and United States State Privacy Laws including the California Consumer Privacy Act / California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA).
- Google User Messaging Platform (UMP): On launch in applicable regions, the application displays a certified Consent Management Platform (CMP) dialog enabling you to provide or decline consent for personalized advertising and cookies.
- No Ads Without Consent: AdMob SDK initialization respects your consent preferences. If you decline consent, only non-personalized, context-appropriate ads are requested.
- On-Demand Consent Revocation: You can change or revoke your privacy choices at any time directly in the app by navigating to Settings → Privacy & Consent → Privacy Preferences. Tapping this option re-opens the official Google UMP consent form.
